"Having studied an eclectic range of martial arts over many years, I can honestly say Adam Merton’s system of Shunryu Kenpo is one of most exciting and comprehensive systems I have had the pleasure of studying. Blending the traditional and the modern, Shunryu Kenpo is a holistic martial art that uniquely encompasses the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of martial arts. Adam Merton is one of the best instructors and martial artists that I have met and I heartily recommend that you take the opportunity to train with him in this unique martial art. I am both honored and proud to call him friend and Master."

"I first heard of Adam's reputation even before I had met Adam and thought yeah! yeah! another kempo master... Considering the fact that he has never claimed it; but over the many years of knowing Adam I know this for sure -
Not only is it a real pleasure to train and learn with him but his knowledge in the arts far surpasses his 25 years in training. He is always open and a friendly person. Despite his many achievements he is exceedingly humble. Adam is a true master of the arts and good at kempo too… :-)"

"I have known Adam for approx 2 and half years. We met through our mutual Kenpo Instructor, Andy Fitzgerald. This is most ironic as Adam encapsulates the qualities that are embodied in the Kenpo Salute, the Warrior and the Scholar. He has an in-depth knowledge of many Martial disciplines and yet at the same time he has the humility that comes from someone who studies the arts for personal development and improving both his spiritual and physical self. He is extremely approachable and takes the time to make students feel valued and puts their needs before his own. He also chooses to highlight other practitioner’s achievements and merits rather than arrogantly “selling himself” and this is a rare and admirable trait that has won him much respect within the Martial Art community. I would urge anyone to learn from this gentleman as he has a wealth of experience to share and I am pleased to have the privilege of calling him my friend".

"Having trained in the Shotokan style for over 30 years I began training under Kancho in early 2000. During my training with him I found that he had a high degree of knowledge on the martial arts in general and was quite capable of passing it on to his students. Working within the public sector in his daily life he has gained excellent communication skills and can put his thoughts across in a clear and concise manor.

Discipline and control within the training hall environment is a necessity in the martial arts so as to avoid accidents. This, I found was enforced by Kancho quite effectively whenever required and students benefited from this.

As an older person learning new skills the learning process can be a little slow. I can honestly say that Kancho had the patience and experience to progress me through the Shunryu system to a point that I felt confident to teach it in my Shotokan classes".

"Learning Shunryu Kempo with Adam Merton was probably the most important thing I've done in my life so far. It helped me regain and increase my fitness during my mid teens and gain major amounts of confidence. The skills I learned, both physical and mental, have kept on helping me in life even after moving on from the system."
